About Charanne Papuga, Attorney
Charanne Papuga’s interest in the law began at the age of six after watching her father argue a case in the Northern District of Illinois. Following graduation from the University of Miami with a double major in International Studies and French, Charanne began her journey in becoming a lawyer by immediately entering law school. Charanne received her JD and passed the Illinois Bar in 2000. Following in the footsteps of both her father and grandfather, Charanne joined Kropik, Papuga and Shaw, the Chicago law firm founded by her grandfather in 1937. Charanne worked at Kropik, Papuga and Shaw for over 10 years, where she represented high-profile lenders such as JP Morgan Chase Bank, N.A., The Northern Trust Bank, and Fannie Mae. She regularly appeared in both state and federal courts in Cook County and the collar counties.
Charanne gained a variety and vast amount of experience at Kropik, Papuga, and Shaw by representing lenders in foreclosure actions, bankruptcies, cases filed against lenders alleging Truth-In-Lending and RESPA violations, mechanic’s lien actions, and cases filed by the City of Chicago and other cities and villages for code violations involving lender-owned properties. Charanne represented JP Morgan Chase Bank, N.A., at both the state and appellate levels in JP Morgan Chase Bank, N.A., v. Fankhauser. Charanne’s representation led to successful rulings in favor of her client, J.P. Morgan Chase Bank, N.A., in both the state and appeals filed in the Illinois Appellate Court for the Second District. JP Morgan Chase v. Fankhauser was published and remains cited by judges and attorneys alike.
While at Kropik, Papuga and Shaw, Charanne ensured workplace productivity and coordination through the management of attorneys, paralegals, and other legal staff. She also managed Monroe Title Company and handled title claims for lenders in and out of court. Charanne also gained invaluable experience by handling well over one hundred real estate transactions, representing buyers, sellers, and lenders in their purchase or sale of real estate throughout Chicago and its surrounding counties.
In August of 2020, Charanne joined the law firm of Bielski Chapman, Ltd., where she regularly appears on behalf of the firm’s clients in court for probate and guardianship cases. Charanne continues to use her years of experience in real estate transactions by handling real estate closings. Since becoming a member of Bielski Chapman, Ltd., Charanne has also worked on commercial litigation, including mechanic’s liens, breach of contract cases, and actions involving business torts.
Charanne grew up in Oak Brook and now lives in Hinsdale. She spends most of her free time and weekends rooting her twin boys on at baseball and basketball games.
