About Joanna Martinez

Joanna Martinez

Joanna Martinez graduated from DePaul University in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in International Studies and a minor in Spanish.

She is fluent in Spanish and has held various positions across local non-profit and direct service organizations. Prior to joining Bielski Chapman, Joanna worked for Instituto del Progreso Latino where she helped legal permanent residents apply for U.S. citizenship. This past summer, she also worked at the Greater Chicago Food Depository where she addressed the issue of food insecurity in low-income neighborhoods in Cook County.

In her free time, Joanna volunteers at The Resurrection Project assisting DACA recipients with the status renewal process, and with the American Red Cross as a translator and interpreter for Spanish-speaking asylum seekers. Additionally, she is a member of the Mujeres Latinas en Acción Young Professionals Advisory Council. As a member, she supports and amplifies the work of the longest standing Latina organization in the nation. Joanna is always looking for opportunities to give back to the communities she grew up in and for ways to connect with other first-generation professionals of color.

In the near future, Joanna intends to go to law school and become the first lawyer in her family.
